It’s with great honor to announce that Barbara Otey of Folsom Arts Association has recently been awarded the Arts Achievement Award by the Folsom Arts and Cultural Commission.
When Barbara joined the FAA a few years ago, there were only about a dozen members. She became an active member and served as president bringing enthusiasm and structure to the developing organization. Barbara began scheduling 3 day and week long workshops with high quality instructors to provide additional educational experiences to local visual artists. She also began conducting regular monthly meetings at the Art Center at 48 Natoma which include professional demonstrations by regional artists. In a few short years, due to her leadership the organization has grown to a membership of more than 100 artists!
Barbara also encourages the FAA to give back to the community, and through money made from the artists workshops, the FAA Board has provided sponsorship, donations and scholarships to many different community organizations and causes. She has also been instrumental in organizing an arts component to the STARS after school program at Theodore Judah. Supplies for the program are funded from workshop revenues and Barbara has encouraged numerous FAA members to volunteer and provide art lessons to this group of at-risk children.
Barbara’s hard work and can-do attitude has help grow the Folsom Arts Association into a vibrant organization.
