ARTIST STATEMENT: BARBARA ARNETT OTEY
Inspired by artists in the "Land of Enchantment," Barbara began painting
in the early-90's with Dorothy Vorhees, a renowned Albuquerque artist and teacher,
and later with Sheila Savannah, of Prescott, Arizona. Her work emphasizing
flowers draws heavily on
memories of her youth in Memphis, Tennessee and young adulthood in New Orleans,
Louisiana. Since moving to Folsom in 1998, she has expanded her work to
landscapes, and an occasional still-life.
Barbara is a member and Treasurer of Folsom Arts Association,
El Dorado Hills Arts Association, Placerville Arts Association,
and was currently appointed by Council member Kerri Howell to serve
on the Folsom Arts and Cultural Commission. Barbara currently takes
watercolor workshops in the area.
Her picture, "Abloom" received an honorable mention
in a WASH show and was hung in the California State Capitol. Her
artistic endeavors are wholeheartedly supported by her three children,
three grandchildren, one great grandson and husband Glen.
