Joan Sexton

Painting and traveling are my two passions. The images collected from my travels take on new life on my canvas. The paintings that result have been of vineyards and rolling hills, medieval cities and tranquil deserts, quiet lakes and massive mountains.

Joan Sexton Encaustic IntroductionThere is nothing more exciting to me than painting in nature; the goal of capturing the nuances of light and color as well as atmosphere is my challenge. I attempt to bring a sense of serenity and peace into my work which I feel is so very needed today.

Although I love working with Pastel and Watercolor, I have recently discovered the wonderful medium of ENCAUSTIC. This exciting new genre includes the use of beeswax, resin and blowtorches! The process is a great deal of fun! To learn more about me and my encaustic introduction, click on the video and enjoy!

My work is currently on display at the Auburn Old Town Gallery. Recent exhibits include: The Triton Museum, Santa Clara; The Haggin Museum, Stockton,; The Mistlin Gallery, Modesto. Upcoming events include shows in Sacramento, Roseville and Folsom.
